Learn Spanish with Pictures – Building a shed

Speak Spanish with children by talking about this picture of a woman building a garden shed. The questions that follow, like all the Learn Spanish with Pictures activities, are ordered to help children master the vocabulary and gain confidence with the language. First, describe the photo (1). Be sure to point to the objects in the picture as you talk about them. Use gestures, facial expressions and actions to help your child understand what the words mean. When your child understands the key words, ask questions from Choose the answer (2) and Pointing and counting (3). Ask the questions in Yes and No (4) to practice more of the vocabulary used in the description. If your child is comfortable enough with the Spanish words to produce them easily, include the questions in Say a little more (5). The questions in What about you? 1. Describir la foto – Describe the photo
La mujer está construyendo una caseta para jardín. Tiene un martillo en la mano. Está en una escalera de mano. La mujer lleva una gorra roja, una camiseta azul, un short y unos tenis. La mujer no trabaja sola. Hay otra persona que también trabaja, pero sólo se ve el brazo. Esa persona lleva una camiseta blanca.

[The woman is building a garden shed. She has a hammer in her hand. She is on a ladder. The woman is wearing a red cap, a blue t-shirt, shorts and tennis shoes. The woman is not working alone. There is another person working too, but you can only see his/her arm. That person is wearing a white t-shirt.]

2. Seleccionar la respuesta – Choose the answer
¿La persona en la escalera es una mujer o un hombre?
¿La gorra es azul o es roja?
¿La mujer trabaja sola o hay otra persona allí?
¿Se ve la cara de la otra persona o solo se ve el brazo?

3. Señalar con el dedo – Pointing and counting
¿Cuántas personas trabajan?
¿Dónde está el martillo?
¿Dónde está la escalera de mano?
¿Dónde están los tenis de la mujer?

4. Sí o no – Yes or No
¿La mujer usa un martillo?
¿Un hombre está en la escalera?
¿Hay cuatro personas en la foto?
¿La camiseta de la mujer es azul?

5. Decir un poco más – Say a little more (respuestas/answers)
¿Dónde está la mujer? (Está en una escalera de mano.)
¿Qué tiene la mujer en la mano? (Tiene un martillo.)
¿Cuántas personas hay en la foto? (Hay dos personas.)
¿De qué color es la gorra de la mujer? (La gorra es roja.)

6. ¿Y tú? –  What about you?
¿Tienes una gorra? ¿De qué color es?
¿Tienes unos tenis?
¿Te gustaría trabajar así con un martillo?
¿Te gustaría construir una caseta así?
